Experience from home the magic of Japanese Shibori Indigo dyeing, an ancient dyeing method. Learn to mix indigo dye, then experience the excitement and anticipation of the Japanese art of Itajime Shibori, which is a fabric folding and binding technique to create geometric patterns. During class you will brew a vat of indigo and create a set of two 20" Shibori throw pillow covers. Indigo is one of the richest and oldest pigments used in dyeing, from ancient times to today’s blue jeans. We will discuss a brief timeline of the historical background and science behind the use of Indigo dye across cultures, and create a unique pair of throw pillow covers—all in one day! You will have written folding instructions, and ingredients for more dying after class, to use your newfound Shibori skills and knowledge to create many more natural fiber textiles projects at home.
